Painting Challenge entry 18: Mop-up

Time for my last entry for the challenge. This was more of a mop-up of the last minis on the painting desk. The challenge desperado and dino were in a half finished state for over half the challenge and I only got them done last weekend.

First up is the entry fee. It's a Foundry Lawman that I got off a clubmate. Turned out quite nicely in the end and I think the blue pants really give some nice contrast without being too far away from the earthy colors on the rest of his clothing.

 The next fella is a Gripping Beast Bard for Saga. Not sure if he's going to get any use in games as his rules can make your Warlord a brutal killing machine or a total time bomb waiting to ruin your game. Still it's a cool mini and adds some nice narrative into the games.

Finally Danny the Dino! 2 euros from some local store. I filled his huge mould lines and mismatches with greenstuff and repainted with my airbrush. He was sort of a therapy project that I did on and off when I was bored with everything else and had the airbrush out. Everything except for the eyes, teeth  and nails are done with an airbrush. Turned out rather nicely even if I say so myself. Good practice for some Warhammer Chimeras that I have lined up. Now I just need to figure out some scenario for In Her Majestys Name that I can use him in :)

Painting Challenge Entry 11: Ottoman Special Operations Service

Finally got the Ottoman's finished. Took a lot longer than I expected as they just have ton's of detail and working by painting one colour at a time on all minis didn't really work out as I always noticed that I still need to do something else in that colour on the minis when I had already moved on. And getting carried away watching the Olympics didn't help much either :)

These are really nicely sculpted with a lot of detail and nice touches with varying equipment. I used quite a bit of ink washes on the clothing and backs to speed things up a bit and I think it worked out quite nicely. Nice distraction from the main projects that I have going on.

I'll be posting the Company roster sometime when I have time to finish it up. Loosely based around the Ottoman's from the INHM supplement 'Heroes, Villains & Fiends'.

Leading the company is Colonel Mehmet Pasha. Serving as the Ottoman Military Ambassador in Prussia he saw how effective the Society of Thule and other secret services were in furthering the agendas of their respective governments. After returning to the Sultanate he persuaded the Sultan to let him form a team of Janissaries that were especially trained for special operations. Keeping order in the company is Sergeant Yahya who proved his skills after leading a company in a desperate last stand after all the officers had been killed. He lost his arm in the process, but as thanks for his services he was gifted a mechanical prosthesis crafted by the best engineers in the Ottoman sphere of influence.

Responsible for heavy support in the Company is Corporal Seyit. Famed for his strength this former lumberjack has been known to carry large 240mm gun shells by himself when his weapons ammunition lift broke down during battle. Now he is keeping the enemies of the Ottoman Empire at bay with his grenade launcher. Normally meant for a weapon team of two to three soldiers, Sayit is able to carry the gun into battle by himself freeing the rest of the members for other tasks. Medics in the company don't carry any weapons instead of relying on their surgical knives to deal with any threats on the battlefield as well as with those who have fallen casualty.

The rest of the company are Veteran Janissaries who have survived many battles with the enemies of the Sultan. They have access to the best gear that can be procured and are thus able to outfit themselves for whatever mission needs to be carried out. From automatic rifles to machine guns and and toxic gasses, there is nothing that can stop them from dealing with whatever threatens their beloved Sultan and his Empire.

New real estate

I've been busy prepping new minis for Curt's painting challenge and clearing my table of all WIP stuff that I have (which is a depressingly huge pile with my attraction to all things shiny and new). However I couldn't resist taking a break from minis and putting together some Sarissa buildings that I got in the mail yesterday.

I ordered 4 different Gaslamp Alley buildings from Sarissa to start on a VSF gaming board to use with In Her Majestys Name and other skirmish games. Quality is excellent, but I would maybe have liked to have a bit more interior detail, but for 15-20 pounds a building these are a real bargain. They go together without any issues, as long as you put the side walls the right way round, otherwise they won't stack. I made the mistake on one of the floors and it was a pain in the butt to correct after the glue had already dried on the MDF boards.

The only real issue I had was that window details and balcony are done from a different material (fibreboard I think) which isn't as sturdy as MDF. I already broke one and I'm a bit worried that they won't last gaming. Also one of the detail parts wasn't cut into the right size so I had to trim them a bit so that they fit the walls.

On another note, I really have to take a tally on how much I'm going to paint for the painting challenge. At the moment the planned queue has around 400 6mm figures, 200 15mm figures, 20 15mm tanks, and maybe 60 28mm figures. Don't know if it will be enough to reach my goal of 1200 points, but we'll see.
